The mayor of Essex is pushing for a local Ontario Search and Rescue chapter.

Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex is recruiting local volunteers to be deployed during emergencies.“We could be deployed anywhere in the province,” Habitat CEO Fiona Coughlin told CTV News.

Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex is calling on community members to join a dynamic new volunteer team that’s preparing to respond when disaster strikes.With over $580,000 in provincial funding, Habitat Windsor-Essex is launching a bold new arm of their Repair Revolution Program. This effort is designed to train and equip local volunteers to assist during floods, storms, and other emergencies.

The Government of Ontario is celebrating 15 outstanding individuals and four volunteer organizations with the 2025 June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism. These organizations and individuals are being honoured for their exceptional contributions in their own communities and for the province as a whole.Locally, outstanding volunteer awards in the Outstanding Volunteer Group Category go to the Windsor Essex Bike Community, Amherstburg. 

A local hospice volunteer has been recognized provincially by Hospice Palliative Care Ontario.Joan McSweeney, a Journey Home Hospice Windsor volunteer, has been inducted into the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers, recognizing her efforts in hospice care.
