At Volunteer Windsor, we usually focus on the gift of time. But looking at the latest data on charitable giving in our city, it’s clear that Windsorites are generous in every sense of the word.

We crunched the numbers from 2019 to 2023, and the results are inspiring. Here is what we found.

A Record-Breaking Year

In 2023, Windsor, Ontario, residents donated a total of $104.7 million to charity. This is a massive milestone! It’s the first time in recent history we’ve crossed the $100 million mark.

Despite the challenges of the last few years, our community has bounced back stronger than ever. After a dip in 2020, total donations have surged, growing by over 40% since the start of the pandemic.

More People Are Giving

It’s not just about the dollar amount; it’s about the people. The number of donors in Windsor has been steadily climbing.

  • In 2020, we had about 46,000 donors.
  • By 2023, that number grew to nearly 55,000 donors.

That represents thousands of additional neighbors stepping up to support local causes.

Young People Are Stepping Up

One of the most exciting trends is coming from our younger generation (aged 0 to 24). While they may not have the highest incomes yet, their average donation amount has more than doubled in just five years, jumping from roughly $420 in 2019 to $880 in 2023. It’s amazing to see this spirit of giving starting so early.

How You Can Help

Money isn't the only way to give. If you want to join this wave of generosity but your budget is tight, remember that your time is just as valuable.

Whether you can give $10 or 10 hours, you make our community a better place.
